With 19-month-old twins Heidi and Jasper, Brunswick mother Amanda gets so busy that some days, as she puts it, “I forget my own name in the chaos of early motherhood.”

She says it with a wry smile, but Amanda is making a serious point about parenting.

Mums and dads are so busy these days that when it comes to remembering to vaccinate their children, during the period between 12 to 18 months, it’s easy to forget.

“I totally get it, if it wasn’t for the health care workers reminding me and providing me with great information, the dates to vaccinate would totally get lost on me,” she explains.

“And it’s such an important thing to do, not just for the health of your babies but for the overall health of our community.”

Amanda and her twins are to become familiar faces in Melbourne’s north west from August 1. They are set to feature across multiple media platforms promoting the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network’s campaign which encourages parents to make sure they remember to immunise their babies against life-threatening or disabling diseases.

Amanda’s twins have just completed their course of 18-month boosters and when it comes to visiting the GP, Amanda says Heidi and Jasper have become big fans.

“It’s all about the little sticker they get after the jab, they’re obsessed. We were walking past the GP the other day and they wanted to go in. The sticker rocks their worlds,’ she says.

While the kids focus on the stickers, Amanda is urging all parents in Melbourne’s north west to focus on the message of the Immunise Melbourne campaign.

“It’s all about offering a friendly reminder. We’re all busy and our health care workers just want to remind us and point us in the right direction,’ she says.
